Newport Beach      Sister City Association
Japan Relief Aid

March 22, 2011

Dear Friends,

The Newport Beach Sister City Association has received several inquiries from the public asking where they can donate funds to Japan to help with the current crisis.  Rotary International has a system in place whereby individuals and businesses can send donations for specific charities to their local Rotary Chapter and these funds will then be matched at several levels of their organization before they are forwarded to the charity.

NBSCA has had a long-standing relationship with the Rotary Club of Newport-Balboa.

Thirty years ago Sister City was founded by several of their members as a support group for a proposed student exchange program with Okazaki, Japan.  We are recommending that you send your donation to their club where it will be matched and sent on to their international organization.  Your donation will be matched once or more before it is forwarded to a Rotary Chapter in Okazaki, Japan.  The Okazaki-South Rotary Club will then distribute the funds to the appropriate recovery organizations.

This process takes a little longer to reach those in need than does a direct contribution, but the final result is that your donation may be multiplied several times over and will be placed by the Okazaki- South Rotary directly in the hands of those it can help the most.

If you are interested in sending a donation to Japan via the Rotary

Foundation Matching Funds Program, please follow these instructions.

  1. Send a check made out to Newport-Balboa Rotary Foundation and write “Japanese Recovery Matching Funds” on the bottom of the check.
  2. Mail your check to - Newport-Balboa Rotary Foundation,

Japanese Recovery Matching Fund, P.O. Box 1944, Newport Beach, CA 92663

The Newport-Balboa Rotary Foundation Fund is a 501(c)(3) Corporation.  Your contribution will be tax deductible to the fullest extent of the tax laws and you will receive a receipt for any contribution you may make.

NBSCA thanks you in advance for your generosity.  Our thought and prayers are with the people of Japan as they work toward recovery.

Sincerely,

Liddy Paulsen, President
