Reciprocal Student Exchange with Antibes, France
TO: INTERESTED STUDENTS of Newport Mesa Schools AND THEIR PARENTS
We will be actively recruiting students for the Exchange starting in October.
STUDENT’S EXPECTATIONS
1. An opportunity to increase fluency in French and to learn about the culture of France
2. To be exposed to and gain a new understanding of the cultural etiquette of France
3. To act as an ambassador to France where the student represents the school district, the City of Newport Beach and the Newport Beach Sister City Association in an exemplary manner
4. Must take part in both portions of the Exchange Program in February and April - NO EXCEPTIONS!
5. If chosen to participate in the exchange, the student will have the opportunity to serve as a student liaison between the NBSCA and the student’s high school. This opportunity allows the student to earn community service credit hours toward high school graduation.
EXPENSES
For Newport Beach students traveling to France:
· Each student’s family assumes transportation expenses. (Tickets will be purchased through the NBSCA at the best prices available for the group at the time of purchase.)
· Families should provide personal spending money.
· Incidental expenses that may include host family gifts.
For hosting students from France:
· Expenses associated with hosting a student in your home for approximately ten days.
· Guest students should be included in planned family activities.
In choosing students to represent Newport Beach for this exchange with Antibes, we will consider the following qualifications as well as other specified criteria:
STUDENT QUALIFICATIONS
1. Makes good decisions and is self-directed so that his or her actions always represent the highest degree of integrity, diplomacy and judgment
2. Demonstrates proper manners so that, as a guest in France, the French can gain an understanding and appreciation of an American student’s life-style
3. Displays high performance in academic areas
4. Articulates thoughts and ideas easily
5. Exhibits leadership qualities
6. Accepts and follows directions
7. Is open and friendly with others
8. Shows an awareness and respect for the cultural differences between France and the United States
9. Is able to serve as host for student from France.
10. Acceptance of the Sister City Exchange Code of Ethics
